The development of the Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate fighter may soon receive a partner, as Rostec, the Russian company responsible for developing the fighter, informed the TASS news agency that it plans to invite India to the program.
A Russian delegation should be present at Aero India 2023, an event that will take place in Bangalore next week. Thus, cooperation in fifth-generation aircraft between countries and participation in the development of the Su-75 tactical fighter project will be discussed.
ABOUT THE HUNTER
The Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate project will feature the most advanced technologies through the experience gained with the Sukhoi Su-57 Felon, which was the first Russian fifth-generation fighter.
The plane will have an excellent power-to-weight ratio, “unique in its class”, according to the company. In addition, it will be a low-cost stealth fighter, estimated at between US$25 million and US$30 million.
The fighter will carry up to 7400 kg of the latest technology weapons, in addition to reaching a top speed of 2,200 km/h (Mach 1.78) and almost 3,000 km of flight range.
The jet is expected to start its eastbound flights with four prototypes as early as 2024, with series production expected to start in 2027.
Presented in 2021 during the Moscow air show, the Su-75 should equip the country's air force, but it should also be exported to other countries with greater affinity with Russia.
