The armed forces of Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark have agreed to operate a military fleet of 250 jets. The letter of intent was signed on March 16, according to what Finnish and Danish forces said on Thursday and Friday respectively.
"The ultimate goal is to be able to operate seamlessly together as a force, developing a Nordic concept for joint air operations based on the well-known NATO methodology," the Danish air force said.
Thus, the unified Nordic air defense is intended to counter the Russian threat. The movement gained strength after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"Our combined fleet can be compared to a large European country," said Major General Jam Dam, Chief of the Danish Air Force.
The countries operate F-16, F/A-18, F-35 and Gripen fighters, but it is not yet known which will be part of the agreement.
Norway and Denmark are already members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and Finland is expected to join within weeks of seeking entry into the military alliance in May last year, along with Sweden, which is also expected to join in brief.
