In a move to further grow its fleet, which is already the largest of Chinese airlines, China Southern Airlines aims to take delivery of more than 200 Boeing and Airbus narrow-body jets in three years.
The company has plans to acquire 103 Boeing 737s and 65 A320s during the period. However, 46 Airbus aircraft are expected for 2025 alone.
Although the MAX has already resumed flights in China, new deliveries have not yet been made. China is an important market for Boeing.
Currently, orders are for 129 aircraft, mostly narrowbodies, but there are also 4 orders for widebodies: 34 Boeing 737; 27 Airbus A320neo; 64 A321neo: 4 A350-900.
China Southern Airlines' current fleet ranges from regional jets such as the COMAC ARJ21-700 to large widebodies such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777-300ER. In total, the fleet is more than 600 planes. The company had hoped to grow its fleet to operate around 2000 planes by 2035, but the pandemic may have reduced ambitions a bit. Anyway, there are plans to operate a fleet of 1059 planes by 2025, which is an impressive number.
In addition, the company will operate 630,000 flights in the summer of 2023, the period from March 26 to October 28.
