Airbus confirmed, this Thursday (6) agreements with China. Among other cooperations, the manufacturer is going to open its second assembly line in the country, which is the second most important aviation market in the world.
On its current assembly line in China, Airbus produces four A320 family jets a month, with the help of local suppliers. However, the manufacturer intends to increase to 6 jets per month later this year. Globally, Airbus forecasts production of 75 units per month by 2026.
The new factory will contribute significantly to this, being the tenth Airbus assembly line in the world.
"The deal will contribute to Airbus' overall target of 75 aircraft per month by 2026 across its global production network," said Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury of the new assembly line in Tianjin.
China's skies are often divided between Airbus and Boeing. However, in recent years, orders for Boeing have dropped sharply due to tensions between China and the US.
In addition, the CEO of Airbus predicts that air traffic in China will grow by 5.3% per year until 2040, in view of the strong recovery of the sector after the covid-19 pandemic. The global average of annual growth in the period is 3.6%.
