Qatar Airways takes delivery of its first 737 MAX 8 jet

Carrier Qatar Airways took delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 last week. The company plans to use the aircraft to gradually replace its fleet of 29 Airbus A320-200s.
The MAX received is part of an order originally from the Russian company S7. However, the company was unable to receive the jets due to sanctions against Russia.
The original order for 9 MAX jets was placed by the Russian company at the end of last year, but Qatar Airways is expected to receive all of them.
Qatar's Airbus A320-200 fleet has an average age of 11 years. Thus, Boeing's new jets will help to reduce the average age of the company's fleet.
In all, Qatar has firm orders for 25 737 MAX jets, with purchase rights for an additional 25 units. In 2022, Qatar's order for the Airbus A321 was canceled due to a legal dispute by the carrier against Airbus. Thus, the MAX should meet the company's needs.
However, the legal dispute between the companies was ended, so that Qatar resumed its commitment to the A321neo, but also maintained its agreement with Boeing for the 737 MAX.
