TransNusa, an Indonesian airline, has become the first airline to operate the Chinese ARJ-21 jet outside the country. The company has only one jet of this model, with capacity for up to 95 passengers.
The operator must use the plane to make the route between Jakarta and Bali every day, and all available seats are already sold until April 21st.
The jet completed this same route for the first time yesterday (18).
The aircraft was delivered by COMAC on December 18 last year, however Indonesia's civil aviation authority requires new types to serve at least 100 hours on test flights before they can be put into commercial operation. Thus, the tests only started at the end of February and are already completed.
In addition, the company's CEO, Bernard Francis, said that Transnusa pilots are undergoing training at COMAC, in Shanghai, China.
At the moment, this ARJ21-700, powered by GE CF34 turbofan engines, is the only Chinese aircraft operating outside of China.
