China Airlines has announced that it will acquire 8 more Boeing 787-9 widebodies. The order is an exercise in purchase options, which adds to another 16 aircraft, and was first announced in August 2022. In all, the planes will begin to be delivered in 2025.

The airline announced today (10) that the exercise will be completed soon, also saying that the planes will be delivered from 2026. Thus, the company's 787 fleet will be 24 aircraft by 2028.

The order includes the -9 variant, but can be converted to the higher capacity -10 variant if required.

The airline is in the midst of an aggressive fleet modernization, having already added the Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A350-900, A321neo and Boeing 787.

The 787 is expected to become the airline's flagship widebody aircraft model, gradually replacing the previous generation A330-300.
