Embraer has a large share of the regional market, particularly in North America, where its planes are highly regarded. However, even in view of the great competition that surrounds the larger planes (in particular, the narrowbodies), from Boeing and Airbus, the Brazilian manufacturer does not want to enter the fray.
“We are not thinking about starting a huge new program that costs billions right now. We are focused on recouping previous investments to develop the E2 family,” said Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto.
“A big plane can change the size of the company, but it can also put it at great risk”, he added.
Despite the E195-E2 being more fulfilled than the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and the Airbus A320, the segment for which it competes is that of regional aircraft. So a possible larger version of the plane is still off the table.
The company is investing in the Energia family, which is a family of aircraft with a more ecological proposal. The manufacturer is also investing in a regional turboprop, which uses the fuselage of the E-jets and is thought to facilitate operations in places without much infrastructure.
