The nose landing gear of a Gulfstream G-II executive jet, registration XC-LPY, suffered from a failure and ended up not descending during the approach. Thus, the landing of the plane was on an emergency basis and was filmed.
The incident took place on approach to Mexico City International Airport, but the plane diverted to Felipe Angeles International Airport in Santa Lucía due to better landing conditions.
The emergency team was already waiting for the plane. Fortunately, none of the six occupants of the aircraft were injured.
“It should be noted that in this incident there was no personal injury to complain about, only material damage pending to be quantified. In addition, airport operations continue to take place normally”, reads the statement from Felipe Angeles International Airport.
The model involved in the incident was the first business jet manufactured by Gulfstream.
Footage shows the plane balancing on its two main wheels on either side of the fuselage, keeping its nose in the air to avoid a trail of high-velocity sparks and smoke that could start a fire.
