Kenia Airways wants its fleet to be made up exclusively of Boeing planes. This strategy seeks to eliminate additional costs that would exist if the fleet is composed of several different types of aircraft.

"What the single fleet does is simplify our fleet and bring more similarity to the type of aircraft we fly. It particularly helps with our training and planning and reduces costs because of the type of crew we need, spare parts, financing and discounts on dough we can get," said Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka.

The strategy is for the long term, but the company has already revealed plans to retire its Embraer and Bombardier regional jets.

In addition, the company has a fleet of 21 narrow-body aircraft, but wants to phase out these aircraft as these aircraft do not provide sufficient capacity.

"We also want to increase the capacity of our narrowbody fleet, as the current Embraer fleet we have is very small. We tend to have payload issues; in other words, we can't carry all the luggage we need, so we want to increase the size over a period of time. That's why we're going for the fleeting mono strategy," he said.

The company is still feeling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, although it is already much better. The company's forecast is that the demand for air travel will continue to increase. As part of the strategy, the company wants to replace old aircraft with newer, new generation aircraft that are more efficient and economical.
