AT-27M Tucano aircraft of the Colombian Air Force (FAC) collided in flight this Saturday at around 5:30 pm local time during a training session.

The pilot of one of the aircraft involved, Lieutenant Colonel Mario Andrés Espinosa González, lost his life during the accident. The pilot of the second plane managed to escape by making an emergency landing. No other details about the casualties were provided, including the identity of the other pilot in command.

It is not yet known what caused the fatal accident, but an investigation is underway to collect more details and understand what may have caused the collision. The two AT-27Ms were part of Air Combat Command No. 2, based in Apiay, Meta.

"An inspection commission was sent to the site of the facts, in order to carry out the expertise to determine the causes of the accident", explained the FAC.

The Embraer Tucanos have been part of FAC military pilot training for years, always proving to be very safe.

"There are more than 100,000 hours of safe flight and thanks to its aerodynamic composition, which allows the performance of highly complex maneuvers, in which pressure changes occur with inverted flights, 000-degree turns, high-speed crossings and quick turns in promotion, which will enchant those present at the fair", said the FAC.
