Investing in more efficient solutions for its aircraft, Airbus inaugurated a new Wing Technology Development Center (WTDC) at its Filton unit.

Airbus is looking for future solutions such as folding wings using the most advanced technologies, so that, together with engine optimizations, it can implement longer and lighter wings. Such a solution could reduce fuel consumption and the amount of carbon emissions.

The new center will accelerate the production, development and testing of this type of solution.

“The new Wing Technology Development Center will help us base our research on practicality. A key element of how we deliver technology for next-generation aircraft wings is through Wing of Tomorrow (WoT), our largest team-led research and technology program in the UK," said Sue Patridge, Head of Airbus Program .

The WTDC is yet another resource that adds to all the research capacity that Airbus already has in the UK, including for its hydrogen-powered aircraft projects.
