Boeing is facing yet another challenge in the production of the 737 MAX, but this time it is a logistical challenge. The railroad bridge over the Yellowstone River collapsed and collapsed on June 24. Since then, Boeing has been forced to look for a solution to continue receiving the fuselages of the 737 MAX and P-8 Poseidon at its factories in Washington.
The fuselages are transported by rail between Spirit AeroSystems, which makes structures such as wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, in Wichita, Kansas, and Renton, Washington.
While the bridge is not rebuilt, Boeing has used alternatives, such as transport by trucks. Once the trucks cross the Yellowstone River, the fuselages can be transferred to a train and transported to Renton, Washington to be fully assembled.
US government sources say the bridge should be repaired within weeks. It is unclear how or if this will affect production of new 737 MAX aircraft.
