Airbus revealed that Delta Airlines has exercised its options and increased its firm order for the A220-300 by 12 units, bringing the airline's firm order to 86 A220-300s and 45 A220-100s, bringing the total to 131 family aircraft.

“This additional order from the largest customer and operator of the A220 is yet another strong endorsement of the value and opportunities offered by this next-generation family of aircraft. The A220 gives Delta the flexibility to right-size its operations, gaining efficiency and offering superior single-aisle comfort. In service with Delta, the A220 has proven to be a game changer in its size category in the highly competitive markets of North America,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International Airbus.

With delivery of the additional 12 scheduled for 2027 and 2028, Delta's expansion of the A220 family is an important step in the airline's ongoing efforts to simplify its fleet, while investing in more sustainable aircraft that provide a best-in-class customer experience.

Delta took delivery of its first Airbus A220 in October 2018 and was the first U.S. carrier to operate this type of aircraft and is now the company with the largest A220 fleet in the world. This year, the company has already received 18 units of the Airbus aircraft.

Kristen Bojko, Vice President of Fleet at Delta Air Lines, noted that the aircraft will help the airline meet its sustainability goals as it offers 25% less fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft. , plus a 50% smaller noise footprint and around 50% less Nox emissions.
