The Harbin Y-12F turboprop received its type certificate from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The Chinese plane had already received its type certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2016.
The certification of the plane by Harbin Aircraft, a division of AVIC, is of importance to the bilateral airworthiness cooperation between China and the European Union.
The aircraft made its maiden flight in 2010, but the first generation debuted in the Chinese market in 1985, with around 300 units having been delivered to military customers around the world, in air forces such as Paraguay, Peru and Guyana. In all, there are 18 customers.
Certification in Europe allows the plane to carry up to 19 passengers or a 3-ton load. The plane features Pratt PT6A engines.
