Air India has signed a contract with CFM International for more than 800 LEAP engines, which power the A320neo, A220 and Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft. The aim is to use the engines for your narrowbodies.
The company placed a large order for these planes in February for 470 units. Most of the aircraft ordered are from the A320neo and 737 MAX family. The order includes 140 Airbus A320neo, 70 A321neo and 190 Boeing 737 MAX.
Normally engine orders are not reported, as it is relatively common to purchase these to use them as a reserve for new aircraft. However, this is a big order.
"We are delighted to celebrate with CFM a major deal that will play a key role in our future development. The larger scale introduction of the LEAP engine, as well as our services contract, will help us to optimize our operations in terms of environmental footprint and operating cost, while benefiting our customers," said Campbell Wilson, CEO and Chief Executive Officer of Air India.
