The airline IndiGo is looking to double its capacity by the end of the year. At the moment, the company is close to finalizing an agreement for the acquisition of 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. However, the company is also talking to Airbus about the possibility of acquiring the A330neo.
The Indian giant has been in talks with Boeing and Airbus since March this year. The company recently entered into a partnership with Turkish Airlines, thus starting its international operations with a leased Boeing 777.
But the company seeks its own widebodies, so that its international trips would have reduced operating costs. In any case, the company will have difficulties in having its own planes, since both Boeing and Airbus would still take a few years to get new aircraft delivered due to the backlog of orders.
It is not yet known what the company will do, but its domestic network is very large. The company still manages to remain competitive, as it has a very large fleet of single-aisle aircraft. With Airbus alone, and considering the record order for the A320neo family at the beginning of this year, the company has more than 1300 aircraft in its backlog. The order was split between 125 A320neo and 375 A321neo.
